Velocity Church Serves Alongside AHH Residents at Kairos House

Artists Helping the Homeless recently welcomed a team from Velocity Church to Kairos House in Lawrence for a meaningful day of service, partnership, and community.

Volunteers and residents together spent the day landscaping, cleaning AHH vans, assembling patio furniture, completing outdoor projects, and sharing a barbecue. The most meaningful part of the day was not simply the work that was completed, but the way it was done. Velocity Church members and AHH residents worked side by side, with volunteers helping with projects and residents taking part in caring for the house they call home.

This kind of collaborative volunteer opportunity reflects one of AHH’s core beliefs: dignity grows through relationship. Service is at its best when it brings people together, creates shared ownership, and reminds everyone involved that community is built through presence and action.

The work day was also connected to Velocity Church’s recognition of AHH founder Kar Woo with its Public Service Award. While we are deeply honored by that recognition, the day itself was a powerful reminder that public service is lived out through ordinary acts of care, consistency, and partnership.

We are grateful to Velocity Church for investing their time, energy, and servant hearts into Kairos House and the men we serve. We look forward to continuing this partnership and building even more opportunities to serve together.

As Velocity Church shared, “Love looks like serving.”
